Crested Gecko Arboreal Environments
Crested Geckos are the acrobats of the reptile world. A standard cage limits them to glass-surfing; a bioactive arboreal environment gives them a 360-degree world of mossy branches, hidden hollows, and rain-catching leaves. This is how you recreate the humidity-heavy New Caledonian wilds.

Hydro-Dynamics: The Vertical Drainage System
Because Crested Geckos require daily heavy misting, gravity becomes your greatest challenge. Water settles quickly, and without a Drainage Layer (Plenum), the soil will become anaerobic within months. We use 2.5 inches of expanded clay pebbles (LECA) topped with a heavy-duty fiberglass screen.
This reservoir doesn't just hold excess water—it acts as a passive humidifier. As the water in the LECA layer evaporates, it rises through the soil, keeping the root zones moist and the ambient humidity stable between misting cycles.

Canopy-Dwelling Cleanup Crew
- Dwarf White Isopods: They stay small and primarily inhabit the soil and lower cork bark.
- Silver Springtails: Incredibly fast movers that hunt for mold in the high-humidity upper zones.
- Powder Blue Isopods: Highly active explorers that will actually climb branches to find waste.
- Milled Moss: Spread over branches to provide a humidity-wicking track for geckos.
